After a beautiful romance in Monte Carlo, a young newlywed arrives at her husband’s imposing family estate on a windswept English coast and finds herself battling the shadow of his first wife Rebecca, whose legacy lives on in the house long after her death.
Rebecca Movie Review – Plot:
The film begins in Monte Carlo where we see an anonymous young woman and rich widower Mr. Maxim De Winter embark on a whirl and romance that’s ends at the altar. Mr. Maxim is trying to overcome his first wife Rebecca’s death. Eventually, they got married and after their marriage, Mr. Maxim takes her to his lovely Cornish house where his newlywed hunts by her ex-wife in every scene. As if the late wife won’t let this new Mrs. De Winter in her house. Summoned as it is at remarkable regularity by Mrs. Danvers who was the housekeeper of Winter’s lounge estate, Manderley.
Rebecca Movie Review – Our review:
The melodrama tale is adapted from the famous novel written by Daphne Du Maurier. From Manderley’s cavernous to vacant hallways, lush lawns to beautiful beaches that most of the narrative unfolds. All the credit goes to the screenwriter Jane Goldman. If we compare 1940’s Rebecca to today’s Rebecca all I can say, it was entirely a dummy, a plastic attraction lacking a soul. Apart from that, camera work, acting, the plot full of twists and turns were exemplary. Casting is perfect by starring distractingly pretty people. The character Mrs. Danvers who remains loyal to her Rebecca was played by Kristin Scott Thomas was spellbinding. Her acting was flawless. Other lead roles Mr. and Mrs. De Winter played by Lily James and Armie Hammer also has stolen the show. All in all, Rebecca is a puzzling love story that had a very surprising end portraying that it’s not a love story between two people we thought about.
