Soul Movie Review:
The movie is about Joe Gardener(voice by Jamie Foxx), who is a music teacher but is trying to make his lifelong passion a reality, to be a jazz musician opposed to his mother’s choice.
We’ve all heard of the place after death, The Great Beyond, but a small accident takes Joe to The Great Before (It’s a place where unborn souls are sorted and sent to earth) just the day he got his chance of a lifetime to play at the best jazz club in town.
Joe meets an unwilling soul and together they find themselves on a journey of self discovery and to find their true purpose in life. On part of this journey, they got a chance to come back to earth with help of a guy named Moonwind (with his bunch of weirdos) but out of excitement Joe accidentally brings 22(the unwilling soul) along, resulting in 22 entering his body and Joe ending up in a therapy cat. Though initially afraid, 22 settles in Joe’s body and love little things in life including eating of a pizza to fall of leaves. This expedition is filled with sweet moments that make you smile, some fun ones sure to make you chuckle and a lot of soul to pull your heart strings.
Soul Movie Review:
If 2020 has taught us anything, it is to re-learn how to live life. This movie is a perfect end to a not so perfect year.
It’s a must watch for all of us out here living the 9 to 5, or zombie-ing our way through life, if not to have an epiphany at least to get a good break from it all. It’s a fresh concept executed quite commendably.
Voices of Jamie Foxx and Tina Fey bring so much life into the characters that it makes you forget you’re watching an animated movie. One of my favorites being Moonwind, voiced by the ever charming Graham Norton. You get to hear some great piano playing, by none other than Jon Batiste, a celebrated jazz pianist.
Just because it’s an animated movie doesn’t mean it’s only for kids. There is so much depth, soul and heart in this movie that I would say it’s also for us adults to understand life.
It doesn’t matter if you don’t have a purpose or spark in your life, sometimes all it matters is to live every minute of it!
