Pagglait Movie Review – Plot summary

The story revolves around a newly widowed woman Sandhya Giri (Sanya Malhotra) whose husband died five months after their wedding. The plot is all about her journey towards independence when she realizes how her family and relatives had been taking decisions for all her life. Sandhya was not a yelling widow at all. In a scene, she was seen yawning at the ‘RIP’ comment while scrolling through social media. Also, in another scene, we could see Sandhya was thirsting for Pepsi and eating masala chips just a day after her husband’s death. Mostly, it looks like that she had lost her senses, perhaps from the laceration of her husband’s death. However, as we get into the character, we could see that she was merely indifferent. Their five months of marriage could never make a husband-wife of Sandhya and Astik.

Therefore, in Shanti Kunj Haveli the family has come together for thirteen days of mourning. Some have been enticing in with the promise of gossip, fake personalities showing responsibility for the family, and some simply because they are duty-bound to be present. But some people had true sympathy in their hearts.

Pagglait Movie Review – Script Analysis

It takes us through the marriage crazy culture of our society. The script is just not about Sandhya’s struggle to be an independent woman after her husband died and dealing with the family. It is so much more than that. It’s preciously a representation of death in a family where women in the family are taunting each other and men are still trying to cut a good deal. Millennials in the family are trying to spots to light up cigarettes and craving gol gappas. Unlike Shahrukh Khan’s Kaal Ho Na Ho and Rajesh Khan’s Anand and Sushant’s Dil Bechara the movie showed that death is not always a call-up and an all-monopolize sadness in everyone. And after death, we are nothing but a topic of discussion. The movie pointed out the hypocrisy of our culture.

Pagglait Movie Review – Performance

Sanya Malhotra, Sayani Gupta, Shebba Chaddha, Raghubir Yadav deserves credit here. Their acting was just perfect without any overdoing. Sanya Malhotra portraying Sandhya is brilliant. Raghubir Yadav who played an angry uncle’s role was a delight to watch. His character is filled with drama with comic relief. Asutosh Rana and Shebba Chadda also flaunting their particular roles.

Pagglait Movie Review – Music and Direction

All the music of the movie is composed by Arijit Singh. His songs Thode Kam Ajnabi, Dil Udd Jaa, and Lamha are pleseant to listen.
The movie is directed by Umesh Bist. Previously he has given movies like – Hero, O Teri, etc. His new directorial Paaglait dig into several topics like- religion, marriage, menstrual cycle, and many more. The dialogue and camera work are very good and deserve credit here. Dialogue and script are also written by Umesh Bist. Cinematographer Rafey Mehmood captures the Ganga ghat in all its beauty and complexity beautifully by giving meaning to the film’s dialogues. Overall a women-centeric entertainer.
